After spending a year studying media and culture beneath the overcast sky of London, I decided to head for sunnier climes and onto an exchange program at SJSU. After falling in love with the area I decided to transfer here permanently and am now a graduating print journalism major.
After completing an internship with them, I am now a regular writer for Revolver magazine. Something of a dream gig for me, the magazine is one of the foremost publications covering rock music. Already I have been lucky enough to interview some of my idols, including Stone Temple Pilot's frontman Scott Weiland and Aerosmith's Joey Kramer.
My other main area of interest, when it comes to both hobbies in general and writing, is sports. This summer I contributed to reports on the FIFA World Cup for the soccer magazine 90:00 Soccer.
After graduating I hope to further my wiring experience in both of these areas. If I am able to make a good living from something that gives me so much pleasure then I will be a very happy and lucky man.
As far as my writing goes, I would say my main weaknesses are concerned with not making my writing snappy enough. I often struggle to write those short sharp sentences that are necessary to mix in with the longer descriptive sentences. I would definitely say that I need to work on making my point more succinctly at times.
Although I am sure that I do possess some skills as a writer, to me writing is all about constantly learning and improving. Something which I am sure will continue with this class.
I didn't realize you were writing for Revolver. Fantastic! Would you be willing to come talk to the students in my Sex, Drugs and Rock 'n' Roll class?
ReplyDeleteOK, on to writing sharper sentences ... let's start here. Instead of "I would definitely say that I need to work on making my point more succinctly at times," just say: I definitely need to work on writing more succinctly.
Welcome back!
